Cooperation with universities

We believe that development is a result of joint action. Strengthening relations between entrepreneurs and scientists is crucial for the development of the voivodeship. However, management models in business and in university units are two different worlds, the understanding of which can only be ensured by lasting and based on solid foundations. partnership.

Technology Transfer Centers and positions such as innovation brokers or specialists in cooperation with universities are being established more and more often on the Pomeranian market. And what can you gain from such a relationship?

  • Creation of implementation research to improve a given product.
  • Commercialization of research and development results by disclosing inventions, patenting and licensing.
  • Development and implementation of teaching programs, i.e. the impact on the education of future staff.
  • Student mobility, i.e. gaining interns, apprentices and employees.
  • Mobility of academic teachers, i.e. exchange of experts on the university-business and business-university route.
  • A more professional response of universities to market demand.

Technology Transfer Centres

They are places where knowledge and research results are transformed into a commercial product. They redirect inventions into innovation. These are units specially established to manage the results of research work from given universities. Their goal is to cooperate with the socio-economic environment and support university entrepreneurship.

Academic teachers are supported at every stage of research commercialization. They facilitate the analysis of commercial potential, provide the care of a patent attorney and support the search for an investor.

The investor’s support is provided comprehensively through the implementation of commissioned scientific research and facilitating cooperation with universities. Technology Transfer Centres also enable contact with experts and commercially available infrastructure.

In the Pomeranian Voivodeship, the largest university units have their own Technology Transfer Centers.

Foreign Students

Before embarking on your journey to Poland, it’s essential to consider several key factors to ensure a smooth transition. First and foremost,

  • if you’re traveling from outside the Schengen area, verify whether you require a visa for entry. Additionally, explore options for extending your stay beyond 90 days, including obtaining a temporary residence permit if you’re a non-EU, EFTA, or OECD citizen.
  • Registering your residence if you belong to the EU, EFTA, or OECD.
  • Be sure to gather necessary documentation such as passport copies, proof of residence registration, university enrollment confirmation, health insurance (translated into Polish), and financial resource documentation.
  • Moreover, securing a PESEL number is vital for accessing various services in Poland, ranging from banking to healthcare.
  • Research the tuition fees for your university studies.
  • Investigate accommodation options, whether it’s securing a spot in a student dormitory or renting an apartment.
  • Setting up a local bank account in PLN currency or creating a currency subaccount can streamline financial transactions.
  • Lastly, if you require a Polish phone number, acquiring a SIM card with proper identification documentation is straightforward. For comprehensive guidance and further details, refer to the student guides provided by our three largest universities.

Otherwise you can recruit without any program, based on a diploma competition (your admission will be determined by the score obtained in the high school leaving examination (or similar) and the submission of appropriate documents).

Volunteering

When?

Volunteering, by definition, is not a paid activity, so start by determining what time resources you have at your disposal. Maybe you’re able to work pro bono for an hour a week, or maybe one day a month? Any form of support will certainly be useful, but it is good to set an action plan in advance. Check if your company also offers benefits for volunteers and maybe even has a team of volunteers?

01

How?

Think about how you want to help and to whom this help should be directed. Hands are needed in many places, but a good volunteer is an untired volunteer, so be honest with yourself and consider how much you are willing to take on – working in a hospice is difficult not only physically, but above all emotionally, but you can focus on activities such as collections, free tutoring, walking dogs in shelters or mentoring people newly arrived in the voivodeship. There are many ways to do good!

02

Where?

And if you have the resources and willingness, but you have no idea where to direct your steps, do not hesitate to ask for the opinion of people professionally involved in the promotion of volunteering, who will help you estimate your real possibilities, but also direct you to the right institution or foundation. . Start with these addresses:

  • Regional Volunteer Center
  • Szlachetna Paczka
  • Volunteering Gdańsk
